Characteristics of High-Latitude Climate and Cloud Simulation in Community Atmospheric Model Version 6 (CAM6)

چکیده

Many global climate models (GCMs) have difficulty in simulating variabilities over high northern latitudes. One of the main reasons is inability GCMs to simulate proper cloud fraction and amount liquid-containing region. This study assessed impact simulation latitudes by comparing long-term parallel simulations Community Atmosphere Model version 6 (CAM6) CAM5, previous version. The results show that CAM6 exhibits a considerable improvement Arctic, especially reducing cold bias CAM5 throughout year. Over sub-Arctic region, however, produces an excessive summer warm winter compared observation, which closely related overestimation liquid. In summer, tends alleviate due increase downward longwave radiation latitudes, while causing blocking shortwave land area. winter, when there little incidence radiation, increases alleviates Arctic but induces land. cloudiness could weaken high-latitude internal variability, exacerbating deteriorating variability trend

Climate Sensitivity of the Community Climate System Model, Version 4

Equilibrium climate sensitivity of the Community Climate System Model, version 4 (CCSM4) is 3.208C for 18 horizontal resolution in each component. This is about a half degree Celsius higher than in the previous version (CCSM3). The transient climate sensitivity of CCSM4 at 18 resolution is 1.728C, which is about 0.28C higher than in CCSM3. These higher climate sensitivities in CCSM4 cannot be e...

Climate‐related changes of soil characteristics affect bacterial community composition and function of high altitude and latitude lakes

Lakes at high altitude and latitude are typically unproductive ecosystems where external factors outweigh the relative importance of in-lake processes, making them ideal sentinels of climate change. Climate change is inducing upward vegetation shifts at high altitude and latitude regions that translate into changes in the pools of soil organic matter. Upon mobilization, this allochthonous organ...

Southern Ocean Overturning Role in Modulating High Southern Latitude Climate and Atmospheric CO2 on Millennial Timescales

During the last glacial period and particularly Marine Isotope Stage 3, North Atlantic Deep Water (NADW) formation weakened significantly on a millennial timescale leading to Greenland stadials (Kissel et al. 2008). Ice core records reveal that each Greenland stadial is associated with a warming over Antarctica, so-called Antarctic Isotope Maximum (AIM) (EPICA and Community Members 2006). Recen...
